12.12.2025Important! Municipal Bank switches its systems to the euro during the holidays
In connection with the introduction of the euro as the official currency of the Republic of Bulgaria as of 1 January 2026, all bank systems for payments, ATMs, POS terminals, mobile and online banking must be reconfigured.
Municipal Bank will begin switching its systems to the euro on 30 December 2025 in the afternoon, and card payment systems at 21:00 on 31 December. As a result, the Bank’s services will be temporarily unavailable.
ATMs and POS Terminals
Cash withdrawals from ATMs and payments at POS terminals in retail outlets across the country will be available until 21:00 on New Year’s Eve. The process of switching card services, ATMs, and POS terminals will start at 21:00 on 31 December and continue until 01:00 on 1 January. The deposit function of ATMs will be restored on 5 January 2026 at 08:30, and machines will accept only euro banknotes.
From the first day of the new year, POS payments and ATM withdrawals will be processed in euro.
We recommend that you fund your card accounts before 14:00 on 30 December 2025.
Remote Access Channels – Online and Mobile Banking
At 14:00 on 30 December 2025, remote access channels – online and mobile banking – will be cut off. Money t ransfers ordered before this time will be executed on the same day or on the first business day – 5 January 2026.
Online and mobile banking will be available again by the end of 1 January 2026.
Until the completion of the technological actions related to the euro introduction on 1 January 2026, Municipal Bank will not accept payment orders for instant credit transfers BLINK/BLINK (SEPA INST) and will not be available to receive such transfers. Access to the Blink parking service will also be suspended until online and mobile banking are reactivated.
Services in the bank’s offices and business centres
On 30 December 2025, Municipal Bank’s offices and business centres will serve clients until 12:30.
Exchange of Bulgarian Lev into Euro
In accordance with the Law on the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Bulgaria, Municipal Bank will exchange Bulgarian lev for euro until the end of 2026, with the service being free of charge during the first six months. The exchange will be in unlimited quantities of banknotes and coins at the official exchange rate – BGN 1.95583 per EUR. Amounts exceeding BGN 30,000 per transaction will be exchanged upon prior request submitted 3 business days in advance.
All payment accounts and loans will be automatically converted without any action required on your part.
